Underappreciated and overlooked rock album
THE BAND: Johnny Gioeli (vocals, guitar), Neal Schon (lead & rhythm guitars), Joey Gioeli (rhythm guitar), Todd Jensen (bass), Deen Castronovo (drums & percussion).THE DISC: (1992) 12 tracks clocking in at approximately 52 minutes. Included with the disc is a 6-page foldout containing band photos, song titles/credits (no lyrics), and thank you's. Label - MCA Records.COMMENTS: I lost this disc back in the mid 90's and came across it again in 2006 and had to order it here on Amazon. Hardline's "Double Eclipse" is truly a lost gem for anyone growing up in the 80's listening to hard/hair/glam rock. Overlooked and underappreciated - the band put together a smoking rock album that simply went nowhere (or at least not as far as it should have gone). Hardline consisted of the relatively unknown Gioeli brothers, legendary guitarist Neal Schon (from Santana, Journey), Jensen on bass (from David Lee Roth days and Alice Cooper), and drummer Castronovo (Bad English, and newer Journey albums among other smaller bands). Hardline's sound was reminiscent of the late 80's hair bands (perhaps just missing the hair/glam wave that was so big) falling right along side other bands (Firehouse, Slaughter, Winger, House Of Lords, Warrant, Skid Row, White Lion, Kix, Lynch Mob, etc) that were big just a few years prior to this '92 release. Why did this album get overlooked? A few reasons in my opinion... the rock/hair/glam music was fading in the early 90's and grunge was becoming the "in" thing to listen to. Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, all released huge albums in 1991-92. Not to mention Rage Against The Machine's award winning debut... as well as heavy metal surging back into the spotlight with Metallica ("Black" album) and Megadeth ("Countdown To Extinction") leading the way during the same time frame. As for the songs on "Double Eclipse" - standard hard rock formula with a few power ballads kicked in for good measure. Two solid mid tempo rockers start it off with "Life's A Bitch" and "Dr. Love". The first ballad is track 4 ("Change Of Heart") and Schon's guitar is the highlight here. The 2nd best slow tune is "Can't Find My Way". The two best harder/faster songs are "Rhythm In a Red Car" and "Bad Taste". The last two tracks are diamonds in the rough, and perhaps my favorite tracks on the album. "31-91" is a minute-and-a-half acoustic (only) piece... which leads right into the album closer "In The Hands Of Time"... another ballad featuring some sparkling acoustic/Spanish/cut-gut guitar. Schon proves his guitar chops on "Double Eclipse" are right on par with anything he's done with Carlos Santana, Journey or Sammy Hagar (another underrated album - HSAS: "Through The Fire"). Some incredible playing here, rocking melodies, meaningful lyrics... a long lost treasure (4.5 stars).

Hardline : "Double Eclipse"
***** - FIVE STARS===================What a wonderful find!!!HARDLINE cranks out some of the best RNR I've heard in quite some time. I want to thank all of the previous reviewers too, I would not have purchaced this without reading all of them. The 5 star reviews were dead on too. This is a RNR masterpiece....If you like your RNR with power, style, and flawless musicianship, this is certainly the purchace for you. I'm a big fan of all 80's RNR, from Aerosmith to ZZ Top, and this is certainly worthy of the high praise it recieves. I only wich I had bought in back in the 90's when it was released....GREAT CD / EXCELLENT / A MUST BUY!!!

a must have for the 80's collector, a great band who hit at the end of the 80's
a truly great band that got caught at the end of the 80's, it's a must have for the 80's collector that likes the feel good music of the times. they are along the lines of bands of the time like ratt, warrant, dokken, but with just a little more edge but you will still find yourself singing along.

This should be in your top 5 hard rock and hair metal albums!
This is a perfect hard rock album. It sounds perfect on CD! It came new and sealed as described, not a re-print, looks to be original from back in the day.

A good rocking album.
This was the first incarnation of ‘Gioeli – Castronovo’ (G&C) and pretty good it was too. Great vocalisation, fine playing from the band and a good mixture of tempos. The short guitar piece near the end reminds me of that done by ‘Randy Rhoades’ on the tribute album to him by ‘Ozzy’.If you like this band, try ‘Set the World on Fire’ by G&C or any work by ‘Axel Rudi Pell’ since ‘Gioeli’ became their singer; though ‘Jeff Scott Soto’ was equally as good before.Playing time just under 53 mins.

Weltklasse
