Girolle has a beechwood plate and stainless steel blade. Easy to learn, fun to use.
I ordered this Cheese Curler Amigo Stainless Steel, Cheese Flower Shaver Perfect for Cheese Wheel or Chocolate, Rust-Proof Multifunctional Girolle Cheese Shaver, Manual Handheld Flaker for my kitchen because I knew I could use it for chocolate and was curious about learning how to use it for cheese.I remember the first time I saw a girolle—many years ago, when I was a newlywed, my husband and I were invited to an al fresco evening dinner. The hosts brought out a girolle and some cheese that had apparently been smuggled through Customs. Everyone was making a fuss over the cheese—I didn’t feel super confident about eating the cheese, which was not only on the lam, but extremely pungent. In fact, the cheese smelled so strongly, I couldn’t imagine how anyone could sneak it into our country. Perhaps it was a joke?Anyway, I was fascinated by the girolle. It’s such a nifty little gadget. You attach your cheese or chocolate to the wooden board, and then you use the blade to cut in slim circles around the top of the food. Done properly, you wind up with beautiful little ruffles of cheese or chocolate.Full disclosure: there’s a bit of a learning curve, here. We had a lot of fun and laughed a lot about the mess we made with the chocolate. It really was a hands-on experiment, in time I got the feel of the blade and loosened up, and the girolle worked just fine.I’m trying to figure out where to get the traditional tete de mound cheese… maybe Whole Foods? There are also some very nice cheese stores in NYC where I live. I’ve also been online, reading many varying opinions about different cheeses that should or should not be used with the girolle. The round wooden board is made of beech wood. It has five metal pieces to hold the chocolate or the cheese. The stainless steel blade has a round wooden handle you hold as you push it along the food to fit it into ruffly bits. The cheese (or chocolate) board also has a cut out channel around the edge to catch scraps.I’ve been hand washing, but the sales page says this can all go into the dishwasher. In my experience, wood does better with a hand wash, but it’s nice knowing that this can go in the dishwasher if I’m in a rush,Girolle has a beech wood circular plate with metal spikes to hold your cheese or chocolate to curl and cut. The blade is stainless steel with a wooden knob to hold. An excellent quality kitchen tool at a nice bargain price. I’ve seen these a few times in high end kitchenware stores, but I’ve never seen one at this price point before (currently $29.99) The girolle cuts cheese and chocolate into ruffly, flower-like thin slices, great for garnishes.

Cute but don’t use it
This product is fun but realistically the amount of times I’ve reached fo I doesn’t really justify the price.

Disappointment
I was excited for this kitchen gadget since I always wanted one but was severely disappointed. The wood seems to be nice quality but the design definitely doesn’t make it easy to store like it states. The weight and size is perfect. You just would have to have a tool to take the metal price off to store how I would want to. I feel the blade is too dull as well and when I used it on multiple tries, all the cheeses were very rough cute, now how I expect it to perform. It would also be better if they included some kind of instructions or cheese recommendations for the beginners.I want to try this with chocolate and see if it does a better job with things. We will see

Excellent fun cheese curl
The cheese grater is super cool! It's about 8.5 inches wide and can handle cheeses or chocolates up to 5.1 inches. Plus, it comes with a 10-year warranty, so you know it's quality stuff. Made of strong beech wood and fancy stainless steel, it's built to last. Cleaning is easy peasy. just rinse it or toss it in the dishwasher. It's fun to do it with your kids. you put cheese on it, give it a spin, and out comes these fancy cheese curls! You can also use it to make chocolate shavings or smooth out cakes. It's like having a secret weapon in your kitchen for making awesome snacks and desserts! My wife use it to make her cheese board fancy!!

Just hard to find the right cheese round
This could be a really fun (yet unnecessary) kitchen gadget. It brings charcuterie to a new level with the opportunity for guests to actively participate in cutting/ribboning ingredients. The cheese required is hard to find in my area so I need to purposely seek out the round of Tête de Moine cheese that should work best. We tried a wedge of parmesean (what we had on hand), and it didn't work well trying to make ribbons. We did get some rough slices once it was room temp. Overall this tool is sturdy and well-built. It stores pretty easily but I wish the post removed easier for flat storage. (You need a hex wrench handy at all times to disassemble.) I do plan to find chocolate that could be used - feeling optimistic on that!My removal of a star is because there is no paperwork or instructions at all that come with it. Assembly is obvious, but I would have liked recommendations of cheese types, chocolate ot even brands that work well with it.

Girolle Cheese Curler Needs Blade Sharpening
I received my Beechwood cheese curler and it looked just like the advertised Girolle. However, I noticed that its blade needed sharpening before I could make a significant number of curls using imported hard cheese blocks similar to Tête de Moine cheese.During my first attempt, the cheese block split after a few successful curls. But after sharpening the blade, I was able to make several dozen curls before the next block of cheese split into sections as shown in the photos.Although the beech wood Girolle was easy to hand wash and dry, I found it disappointing to make cheese curls. I had to stop frequently to sharpen the blade, which made it challenging to create a large number of cheese curls before it needed to be resharpened. For these reasons, I would give it a three-star rating.
